Cultural Arts Education



DANCING EARTH CREATIONS is dedicated to educational initiatives which include




* Guest classes with, and referrals to, year round training programs in CA and NM with respected associates Cuicacalli Escuela de Danza (San Francisco, CA), Dance Zone (Cupertino, CA) – both run by Dancing Earth guest artist/company members; New Mexico School for the Arts and Moving Arts Espanola in NM

* Private program in Cultural Creative Movement, developed for Keres Montessori of Cochiti Pueblo, for Keres speaking students

* In fall 2015 Rulan Tangen co-teaches a theater/music/dance course as a guest artist at the Institute for American Indian Arts




Summer dance intensive institutes in San Francisco (with Cuicacalli Escuela, with Dancing Earth guest artist teachers, for youth) or in New Mexico (with Dancing Earth for exceptional emerging or mid career Indigenous artists); accepted by audition or selection for intensive training, land dance, and creative incubation of choreography

DANCING EARTH methodology Teacher Training program (currently being developed)




* for cultural arts organizations inter-departmental colleges/Universities; this has included ‘Race and Environment’ semester long initiative hosted by Institute for Diversity in the Arts at Stanford University CA; collaborative creation of SEED with over 40 students and community members with the Theater Department of FT Lewis College CO; guest choreographic residency with Washington University; and guest semester at Arizona State University’s dance department as supported by the Community Engagement Director Joe Baker.




* Key note lecture with film screening and community meet and greet (as invited to many national and international conferences and educational institutions)

* Panel discussions for Indigenous arts-ecology symposiums (Talking Stick Festival and Staging Sustainability Symposium, Canada; Society for Dance Historians, CA; Indigenous Choreographers Symposium, UC Riverside, CA; Indigenous Forum at Bioneers, CA, and many more)

* Referral to company member Deollo Johnson Diversity Leadership training




* DANCING EARTH master classes for advanced dancers, in Indigenous contemporary dance (such as at Cleo Parker Robinson Summer Program, and CU Boulder dance department in CO; New Mexico School for the Arts, and Moving People Dance in NM; and UC Riverside, Cuicacalli Escuela Dance Zone and Academy of Ballet, CA

* DANCING EARTH community engagement workshops, as commissioned to serve specific community groups including :

  •  School programs with different workshops available for different grade levels – Ronan School district Montana; St Lois public school Missouri; Phoenix area public schools, AZ
  • Master classes with inter-departmental college/University students (such as at Stanford University CA, FT Lewis College CO, Naropa University CO; Washington University, MO)
  •  Native inter-generational language or cultural revival programs (such as Little Nest, Canada)
  • Native health and wellness gatherings (such as Native Wellness Institute conferences)
  • Arts Engagement and Decolonization in Motion workshops for cultural-environmental gatherings or groups (such as Bangka canoe Project, CA; Seventh Native American Generation at Eco Garden, SF, CA; San Francisco Inter-tribal Friendship House, CA; Big Mountain Camp, AZ; Bioneers Womens Leadership Forum, CA; Real Food Challenge, NM; Grand Canyon Trust’s Healing with Earth and Sky program at Centre for Indigenous Music and Culture, AZ)




DANCING EARTH company members leading guest classes or developing short programs at any of the above, in subjects including martial arts, meditation, musical composition, drawing, moccasin making, powwow, hiphop, breakdance, ballet, singing, and other art forms
