Meet Alekzeta “Z” Cantu

“Z is enraptured by the immersion that Eco-Elegies will bring. The chance to physically, spiritually, mentally, and energetically dive into mixed-ism is an honor. Through discovery and intuition, she hopes to reconnect to the land, to family, to movement, and to community through dance and ritual. Through this process, she strives to showcase that every moving body contains the profound.”

About Alekzeta (she/her)

Alekzeta is a curious, free-flowing mover based in the Bay Area and New York City. Born in Yanaguana (San Antonio, Texas) Alekzeta was exposed to a variety of dance, music, and art forms. She began her dancing journey by dancing Sevillanas and Folklorico with her family, which then grew into a love for all dance. She trained in various studios in Texas and attended ballet summer programs such as Bolshoi Ballet Academy, American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Austin, Texas Ballet Theatre, and Alonzo King LINES. After spending a summer in San Francisco with LINES, Zeta attended the LINES Training Program where she worked with various choreographers and dance masters. While attending, she began to develop freelance projects. She co-created an ongoing project currently labeled, “Moon Movement,” a show that gives spaces for dancers, sound healers, poets, and other artists to collaborate and perform in various spaces in San Francisco. Z has also choreographed and performed with poets and musicians around the bay in art events and features at Uzi Gallery and Ancient Lakes Dance Festival. In collaboration with Nina Hedin, Z performed and contributed choreographically to the setting and making of a short film called “Oshun,” which will be released in 2023. After attending the Summer Institute with Dancing Earth, she is excited to nurture and share her dancing spirit- to reconnect to her heritage and her earth using movement as medicine. Zeta hopes to bring Dancing Earth to the community and every direction of the earth.
