Dancing Earth is honored to co-host 2 online workshops with “New Matriarchs of Narragansett First Nation”! These two workshops are part of Artistic Director's, Rulan Tangen, exploration of her emergent movement of MIXED-ICISM as the process for an itinerant body of work for eco-feminism and eco-liberation. A multidisciplinary, multi-sensory, multidimensional, mysterious and magical will centering the wisdom of the body that may include writing and drawing.

Dancing Earth is proud to debut Eco Elegies - Ritual of Re:Mix, Dreamvisioner Creatrix Rulan Tangen’s newest work, at The SOURCE gathering this Fall at Dance Mission Theatre.

The iteration of Eco Elegies features our Bay Area collaborating artists — an intercultural and intergenerational cast of BIPOC dancers who carry mixed identities (such as ancestry, cultural experiences, languages, gender and more).

Come learn techniques to make your own journals and notebooks using natural and recycled materials. Learn how to incorporate creative book-making into DIY archiving practices in hopes of creating the radical acts of witnessing yourself and the communities you serve. This class does require 30 minutes of prep for gathering materials.

We extend this special invite to those who have joined or expressed interest in movement sessions and online concerts in the cyber-world in the past year and winter, to join this movement series. We invite your courage, creativity, compassion and care - and welcome you to bring a friend!

Join us for a celebration of community hand-rolling ritual, centered around Rosana (Sana) Rojas’s Lumpia recipe, a non-traditional exploration of the Filipino staple, REMIXED! Dancing Earth collaborator Taraneh Sarrafzadeh welcomes you into her mother’s home, Sana’s Kitchen, as friends from different backgrounds explore Mixed-icism as they roll lumpia together.

Rulan calls upon “mixed-isim in motion” to embody the diversity of life forms in three realms: the underground of soil fungi and of microbiota which mimics the biozomes of our intestinal labyrinth and has inspired the cue of “dancing from the gut” - trusting instinct. Next, above ground are the insects, winged, pollinators and the condensation cycle of clouds and rain.

Movement is a way to architect energy. What are you ready to release? What questions will you allow yourself to live? What emotions do you choose to put in motion? Practice embodied imagination as we listen with care and curiosity to what our bodies have to say. We will take time to feel our connection to the earth through our backs, so if possible, please be in a space where you can be comfortably horizontal on the ground.

For this Earth Day 2022, Dancing Earth’s RITUAL OF REMIX : THE ECO ELEGY hosts our first Mixed Salon. This month’s earth-centered theme is the return of our annual super-popular Clothing Swap. You can bring or leave items for giveaway : good condition clothing, books, accessories, household items.

Rulan invokes “mixed-icism in motion” to embody the ecosystemic relationships between darkness and earth in dynamic juxtaposition of heat and light of sun and moon, the flow of moisture above and below ground, and the dynamic aeration of soil by hooved animals - to encourage open the seeds of potential for our dreams - wild and free, rooted and connected! Empathy, biomimicry, imagination, memory and intuition are the techniques used to cultivate movement, and to blur and soften the edges of definition and difference between human and beyond-humans beings…

Hector revolutionizes the world of dance by encouraging BIPOC folks to have a connection to the arts, specifically dance . As a non-binary queer latinx dancer/choreographer, I want to be able to showcase my pride on what it is to be a Latinx queer artist through movement composition. Having a bicultural, Mexican-American background influences my work. The main source of inspiration for my movement creation in addition to my culture comes from the years of experience I have as a contemporary ballet dancer, student, choreographer, and teacher.

This time together will be full of invitations to improvise; your languages of movement are welcome. Move in relationship to landscapes that support, nourish and inspire. Allow elements within and without to influence movement. Notice how the texture, weight and feel changes based on where we initiate movement, be that bone, breath, or some combination. Cultivate awareness to invite the body to realign and reimagine. We will take time to feel our connection to the earth through our backs, so if possible, please be in a space where you can be comfortably horizontal on the ground.

ABOUT THIS CONCERT : In this time of changing seasons and the equinox, I will offer songs for any and all who care to listen live, via the interwebs and those quartz-containing devices that are able to connect us across space and time zones.
