Every day is Earth Day for Dancing Earth - as the people of the earth dancing with and for the Earth !
For this Earth Day 2022, Dancing Earth’s RITUAL OF REMIX : THE ECO ELEGY hosts our first Mixed Salon. This month’s earth-centered theme is the return of our annual super-popular Clothing Swap. You can bring or leave items for giveaway : good condition clothing, books, accessories, household items .Anything not claimed as a new treasure will be donated at the end of the day to local charities . Dancing Earth has created incredible costuming for productions, and stylish outfits for company artists out of entirely thrifted materials ; we appreciate all of you in the community for turning trash into treasures, and choosing creativity recycling, repurposing and reusing !
The guidelines:
It's not a 1 for 1 swap, but more of a share and give away. If you have items in good condition to pass along ( clothes or other items ) please bring them; if you are hoping to pick up items that you want or need without purchasing , we welcome you !
If you are bringing items , please take them out of bags into area of floor, racks, or tables before leaving
If you are planning to try things on, wear minimal fitted clothing for easy try ons, and DO NOT bring extra bags or clothing or they might get confused with the swap items ( leave them in trunk of car)
Bring your own bag for items you want to take home ( easiest if your bag has your name on it or is identifiable , so it doesnt get mixed up with the giveaways !
if you can stay until the end to help put items into bags and help transport to local charity , that would be great !
If you can't attend, you can consider
Reduce, recycle, reuse !
Host your own MixNMatch salon/clothing swap this month in your community !
Exchange heirloom seeds with seed keepers in your area !
Plant a tree or Native plant in your area, including wildflowers that attract pollinators !
Buying food from local farmers markets or local sustainable food sources !
Picking up trash in your neighborhood or park !
Who is this for ? People of Mixed-ness !
What does that mean ? For this mixed salon, we are inviting this meaning to inclusively expand in what “mixed-icism: could mean - do you speak more than one language , do you balance a job with family duties, are your ancestors from different counties or villages, do you spend time in both urban and rural settings, did you grow up in a household with more than one religion, do you carry masculine and feminine energies - we will be tracking all the mixed-ness in a colorful poster during the event !
Why ? because we feel that diversity is what creates an interesting life experience, of exchange and learning and we know that eco-diversity is crucial to life on earth, so we want to celebrate the mixed-ness within each individual ! And, this is the theme being explored in Rulan’s next creative process/project …
We welcome donations for those who are attending - or those who are not - to support Dancing Earth’s eco-centered creative practices year round ! ( add GIVE BUTTER donation link for REMIX )
