Revitalizing Equilibrium
Autumnal NEWS

Greetings to our Dancing Earth circles…

At this time of equinox, we reflect on the need for balance amongst all forms of life on earth. We reach out with our dances to heal, to hope, to ground, to question, to reach, to dream...as we pray for good health, clear air, and an end to the devastating fires raging across the west coast of the U.S.

We have to wonder the purpose of art and creativity amidst such devastation…beloved mentor reminded me that we bring forth art as the most significant way for humans to remember how to live in balance, harmony, love and beauty. We need to look to what we can GIVE to the world at this time...we are excited to share offerings, to uplift your body, mind, heart, and spirit this autumn.

In this newsletter you will read about the recent past, present and future offerings as we have been busy here at Dancing Earth creating and welcoming in new ways of being and doing. We look forward to having you join us for some of our online performances, a marathon Dance-A-Thon, and continued online classes and presentations throughout this bright season of autumn.

Many thanks to those that have given of their time, attention, energy, creativity, finances, and great wisdom over these last months. It is your continued energy that keeps our collective wheels turning.

Thank you for your support of Dancing Earth!!

Sending prayers to you and your beloveds for good health, well being, peace, and justice as we all continue to move and grow through these turbulent moments of unknowing and uncertainty.

Knowing that YOU are here with us on the journey grounds us in a resonance of connection!

We look forward to continuing to share our powerful, inclusive, and revitalizing vision for global Indigenous contemporary dance, stomping and spiraling ourselves from resilience into extraordinary creativity in service of planetary equilibrium!

With a Dancing Spirit,

PAST

REVIEW by Kathryn Machi

BETWEEN UNDERGROUND & SKYWORLD :
Luminous Hope for a World on Fire

June 16, 2020

Sparking extensive Indigenous community dialogue about climate change, commodification, and colonization, world-renowned Contemporary Indigenous Dance leader and Dancing Earth director Rulan Tangen (Metis) asked: “What is energy? What is renewable? What is our collective futurity?”

In her fierce, timely, and entrancing multi-media work-in-progress, “Between Underground & Skyworld” (BTW US), Ms. Tangen responded to a final question: “How do we make relevant our Elders’ cultural teachings of the past while encouraging the present generation’s sustainable imaginings of the future?”
