We are so grateful, Thank You!!!

Dear Friends,

We are so grateful for the donations that have come in for our GO FUND ME Campaign! As of today, September 3rd, 2020, our total donations are $9682.00!! Thank you!

Dancing Earth’s ongoing creative, cultural, and communal response to these times is one of kinship between all voices, as we recognize the need for solidarity and reciprocity. We want to acknowledge in gratitude all of the donations that folks have given of their creative time, attention, prayers, finances, and energy in holding space and hope for the change we all seek...to be more in balance, with reciprocity at the core of how we are more together than we are apart. THANK YOU!

As a thank you we offer this video, Joy

Joy

In ‘Joy’ the dancers of Dancing Earth embody and meditate on what it means to experience joy. They share personal, private expressions of transcendent celebration. Although they dance separately, Dakota, Natalie, Ciera, Justin, Raven, and Lumhe ride the same vibration of energy as they ruminate on joy. This video was commissioned by Alexa Riggs and created by Madeline Rackerby. Rackerby has previously collaborated with Dancing Earth for crowdfunding and short documentary videos.

From Rulan Tangen

“As Founding Artistic Director of DANCING EARTH, I felt the great shift this year has brought: much loss, sorrow, pain and with it an opportunity for truth and for re-imagining. With support from our circle, we have been able to meet this challenge with creativity and collaboration, to meet the moment, and welcome, in online practices, an uplifting of our incredible artists and our communities.

Yes there are challenges, but we have always spiraled like water around every obstacle to bring new life. From summer programs for Native youth, to healing circles,  LGBTQIA+ Indigenous artist panel, dance classes in Afro-Modern, all the way to a deeply connected summer of offerings like Movement as Medicine.

We are now in online rehearsals teaching artists, do-it-yourself film techniques for our next production in November - all for respectable living wages due to your generous contributions.

By you, with you, for you - together we are making this happen!

In January we had a magnificent premiere of Between Underground and Skyworld, in a city aptly named as Phoenix which was home to our first Dancing Earth performance.

BTW US is a compelling, youth led vision of post apocalyptic Indigenous futures, that we no find ourselves living this story.. I hear the words iKAKIMAT, “don’t give up, keep going,”  and we are.

Love and gratitude to each and every one of you, for what you contribute to keep alive  this powerful dream of Dancing Earth!

From Lumhe Micco Sampson….

"Working with DE recently has helped me EVOLVE and stay on the cusp of what is being done, and more so, what is possible by learning from collaborators about the latest tech/implements.

The CONNECTION to other amazing beings and having space to be heard and hear each other was HUMANIZING... we all were able to assure each other that we still have each other and that we are stronger together... not only as collaborators, but as community, as FAMILY.

SOOOO  MUCH appreciation to EACH AND EVERY donor... it simply wouldn't be without you.”

 From Ciera Budge…

“Working with Dancing Earth in the past few months during quarantine has helped me not to feel so isolated because I still get to see, converse, create and move with my family. Our weekly movement sessions never fail to lift my mood and energize me. I’m extremely grateful to be a part of Dancing Earth during this odd and trying time.”

From Kayla Banks...

“For me working with Dancing Earth during this time has allowed me to stay integrated and rooted in a global indigenous mindset and in a circle of friends that are steeped in supporting each and projecting underrepresented voices in this pivotal time. Rehearsal time is not an escape from the present day troubles but a place where I can lay my troubles down and get to work on how to express those issues. Peshya for all the work that is to come to bring perspective and healing to all those who encounter it.”

From Natalie Benally...

"As an Diné artist, my family, my community and my people were heavily impacted by the pandemic. During this time of hardship, Dancing Earth,  not only employed my work as a creator. The company allowed me to not just amplify my voice and of others in the company, but it has amplified the voices of all our communities during this time. People will hear us, see us and no longer are we limited in our ability to have our voices heard. We are reclaiming spaces beyond what we could have imagined."

Thank you for your support of Dancing Earth!!

Sending prayers to you and your beloveds for good health, well being, peace, and justice as we all continue to move and grow through these turbulent moments of unknowing and uncertainty.

Knowing that YOU are here with us on the journey grounds us in a resonance of connection!

With a Dancing Spirit,
Rulan Tangen, Founding & Artistic Director
