"No one hoards energy from the sun and wind; billionaires and fossil fuel executives can’t hold it in ‘reserves.’ It’s energy for everywhere and everyone"
Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., President & CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus
What is Sun Day? Bill McKibben, co-founder of Third Act, has mobilized a nationwide movement and an event called, Sun Day, to promote the widesprea shift from fossil fuels to clean, sustainable, safe and affordable solar energy. Our movement starts now, mobilizes nationally on Sun Day September 21, and continues until solar and renewables are no longer considered alternatives but power our earth - as it should be. See https://sunday.earth/
Sun Day is designed to engage people across the country in support of solar power and clean energy. Inspired by Earth Day’s transformative impact, Sun Day will harness the power of people, culture, and advocacy to accelerate the clean energy transition at the scale required to meet global climate goals.
What are we doing in New Mexico?
Third Act New Mexico and Renewable Taos are partnering in a statewide effort dedicated to accelerating and facilitating a full transition to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy justice.
In New Mexico, our Sun Day plans are intergenerational, multifaceted, and inclusive. Events include:
Children's Sun Day. September 20, 2025. Taos Library, 1-3 pm, for children ages 5-11. We’ll have solar book readings, mini solar car races and make Sun Day hats. The children will learn how solar energy works and benefits everyone.
Sun Day National Action Day. September 21, 2025. Santa Fe Railyard Plaza, from 1pm to 4pm, is a family friendly event for climate justice. As the arts are a proven educational and engagement format, we are bringing music, poetry, dance and performance (giant puppets! Clowns! and More!) to foster creativity, critical thinking and possibility to expand solar and renewables, ending our dependence on fossil fuels. Inspiring speakers, interactive art projects, plus tabling by local environmental groups and solar advocates round out the day.
Sun Day Albuquerque, date and time TBA with 350NM.
Sun Day at the Taos Ski Valley Oktoberfest. September 27, 10am to 4pm. In addition to the TSV Oktoberfest activities, Sun Day brings Solar vendors, electric vehicles, speakers, and children’s solar activities to this community-wide event.
